Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, says the state government will continue in its efforts to give Okpanam axis of the state necessary developments to enable it meet urban standards.
The Information Commissioner, who was speaking during a courtesy visit by Okpanam Youths to his office on Thursday, said the state government was aware that citizens in Asaba and beyond were gradually moving into Okpanam town as it was close to the state capital.
This, he said, had propelled the state government to prioritize the ongoing Okpanam road construction in order to link the town with the state capital.
Mr. Ukah, who identified security of lives and properties as needed in meeting urban standards, said the state government would make necessary efforts to ensure the safety of Okpanam residents.
He said security experts and law enforcement agents would be met in order to eradicate criminal and social vices from Okpanam region.
The Information Commissioner advised parents and elders of Okpanam town to inculcate good virtues on their sons and daughters so as to make the town habitable.
The Okpanam Youths President, Comrade Nnamdi Ogude, said he was glad of the state government's resolve to provide social and security developments to the region.
He said cultism had grown in Okpanam region and there was need for the state government and vigilante groups to partner in sweeping off the menace from the region.
Also speaking during the visit, the Oshimili North Ward 9 Councillor, Hon. Chibuzor Okocha, expressed gladness over the state government's interest in the growth of Okpanam.
He said the numerous road constructions and youth empowerment programmes done by the state government have indeed empowered the people of Okpanam and others in the state.
