CALABAR CARNIVAL: WILL THE RECESSION STOP NIGERIA'S BIGGEST STREET PARTY

Gov. Ben Ayade of Cross River, has inaugurated the 2016 dry run to signify the commencement of the 2016 annual Calabar Carnival.

Speaking after the inauguration on Sunday in Calabar, Ayade said that the celebration marked the 12th anniversary of the carnival.
The governor, who disclosed that the theme of the 2016 carnival is `Climate Change,’ described the carnival as `the largest street party in Africa.’

He said that the carnival had promoted talent and creativity, adding that it had united the people of Cross River and Nigeria in general.

“Today, we are flagging off the 12th annual Calabar carnival, the largest street party ever; the greatest show in Africa.

“We promised to make this year’s carnival the best and fun loving ever,’’ he said.

Ayade lauded the efforts of the people of Cross River and the participants for coming out en mass for the dry run.

He used the occasion to invite tourists from all over the world to visit Calabar during this season to experience an exciting carnival.

Mr Gabriel Onah, Chairman, Calabar Carnival Commission, said the carnival had continued to grow from strength to strength with new innovations added yearly.

“We are celebrating 12 years of Cross River carnival, 12 years of oneness and unity, 12 years in showcasing what we have and what we are’’, Onah said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that five carnival bands which include Seagull, Master Blaster, Passion 4, Freedom and Bayside will be participating in this year’s carnival.

NAN also reports that the participants were beautifully dressed in different attires, while security was mounted in all the carnival routes.

Dignitaries at the ceremony included, the Deputy Gov. Prof. Ivara Esu, Speaker of the state Assembly, Mr John Gaul-Lebo, Sen. Florence Ita-Giwa among others

GOLLYWOOD ACTOR MAJID MICHEL EXPOSES PASTORS WHO EXPLOIT MEMBERS

Nollywood actor, Majid Michel  who is now a new creature in Christ is trying to help as many people as he can to be better people with his inspirational messages.

This time, he is talking about why he went to church while growing up and the competition among pastors “The only reason i went to church when I was growing up, I did so only because it was the respectable thing to do. My motivation for attending was for the sake of my family’s reputation. Actually, I visited many churches around and met many ministers. Among the ministers, I don’t remember ever meeting one that I felt was in his position because God had chosen him to minister to the people.”

He talked about the success of pastors “…The success of a pastor was measured in how big a car he drove and the quality of the clothes he wore. Most pastors competed against one another to build the biggest and the most prestigious or famous church. I also learned that a tremendous number of preachers were involved in improper sexual relationships. They had extra- marital affairs, committed adultery with members of their congregations, and had plenty of “girl friends” when they traveled to church conventions. Many of them exploited their people. The word among preachers was, “Make them give, make them honor you.”

He concluded saying “There was no mention of Jesus Christ, no mention of the need to reach and help the drug addicts, the alcoholic, no mention of mothers living in a two-by-four flat with five, six, or seven children in a one or two bedroom without a husband. No mention of how the church can become relevant to this situation. Even taking in new members was another money game. Most pastors, when they saw a new person coming to join their church, saw nothing but money signs. They did not see a soul that was thirsting to know God. All I saw in the ministry was phonies, hypocrites, actors, and money-grabbers who were in the business solely for what they could get out of it and who were not the least bit interested in the souls of men!” Majid Michel is a top Nollywood and Ghollywood actor known for his roles in 4 play, Being Mrs. Elliott and 30 Days in Atlanta. He also acted at a pastor in the film, St. Michael and it seems that he extended this role into his real life.

ABBA TO REUNITE FOR NEW MUSIC PROJECT

Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad all four original members of the music group ABBA are set to make a historical comeback after nearly 30 years since they last performed as a team together, though they have been seen to make appearrances together at a 50th anniversary party in june.

The project, which will involve virtual reality and artificial intelligence, has been described as a "new entertainment experience" and will be developed in collaboration with music manager Simon Fuller.

The group announced they will work with Fuller, who rose to fame managing the Spice Girls, on what is being described as a "groundbreaking venture that will utilise the very latest in digital and virtual reality technology".

Lyngstad said fans around the world always ask about a reunion, and added: "I hope this new Abba creation will excite them as much as it excites me."

Andersson said: "We're inspired by the limitless possibilities of what the future holds and are loving being a part of creating something new and dramatic here. A time machine that captures the essence of who we were and are."

The project will aim to take the Abba experience to a new generation of fans and will enable them to see, hear and feel the band "in a way previously unimagined", a press release said.
In June this year the band performed together for the first time in 30 years to celebrate the 50-year partnership between songwriters Ulvaeus and Andersson.
Abba's biggest hits include Waterloo, Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia and Super Trouper.
Their music was adapted into the successful theatre show, Mamma Mia! which was also turned into a 2008 film featuring Meryl Streep, Julie Walters and Pierce Brosnan.
