Elected governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have called for a restructuring of the party to return it to its pre-election status where Nigerians loved it.
The Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, (PGF) and Imo State Governor, Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha, while briefing correspondents after a meeting with the members of the National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja yesterday, lamented that the party had been embroiled in rancour.
The governor said the meeting at the prompting of his colleagues, however, ruled out removing any member of the NWC, as being demanded by a section of the party. The Imo governor believed that the NWC members were doing their best under the prevailing socio-economic circumstances, but felt that there was the need for them to do more.
He said the unity of the party was so critical especially as the party was going into an election in Ondo State later this month.
According to him, “We have noticed that there is so much bitterness among the members and ranks of our party and there is the need for communication and dialogue because where there is no deliberation and dialogue, war is inevitable.
“You may recall that it was the same NWC and these party leaders that saw us through the last elections and what this means is that if these people were good enough to see us through and never betrayed us, they should so be honoured.
“I want to assure them that no one would bully them out or hound them out but there is the need, where possible, to make amendments.”
He said President Muhammadu Buhari, as the leader of the party would be meeting the party leadership soon with a view to addressing some of the contending issues.
This, he said would take place in the next two months and from there they would take it up. “The issue here is that our party should be united and strong, so that we could take advantage of the crisis in the PDP,” he said.
He also confirmed that the November 26 governorship election in Ondo was extensively discussed .
“And secondly, Anambra governorship election is fast approaching and we said we must start early enough now to show strength so that we can also capture the state,” he said.
