Earlier today as I sat in the comfort of the pews of the St. Philips Anglican Church Asaba, with my colleagues, Comr. Imalah, the President of the Association of Anioma Students, Comr. Timothy Kevwe and Comr. Christian Onwugbolu, my mind wandered away to poor the gentle man who sat at the front seat of the church, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa. This was a man whose words had before now drawn my attention to the plight of the not average Deltan, yea, the below-average Deltan.
Precisely, on the 3rd day of January in the year 2015 at the inauguration of the Canaan Movement (a pressure group led by the infatiguable Comr. Michael Akpobire), I had my first encounter with this 'semi-young' gentleman, although his name had been one who had rung a bell, I was opportuned to speak with this man for the first time. His words, as few as they were that day struck a cord, and I made the pledge to support his ambition irrespective of what it costed me. His majestic entry into the NUT hall, which was used for the memorious event, was one that characterized a man of humility who commanded the much desired respect his then fellow contestants highly desired. Immediately then, I knew, that this was the man my dear state needed at this critical stage of her development.
Fast forward to 417 days, His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Oghenegare Okowa has not only lived beyond expectation, he has also to a large extent proven his critics and distractors wrong. His entrepreneurship and empowerment program has been a major unemployment sink, draining to a reasonably enviably height, the high level of unemployment in our dear country Nigeria, this his colleagues in other states of the federation had before now tagged an "unachievable feat."
Seating behind me, was a boss turned friend, the Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor, who had alongside another boss turned good friend, the Honorable Commissioner of Information amongst many others had tirelessly given his all to ensure that the 25th year anniversary of Delta state was a success. I asked myself what was their gain? Mr Charles Ehiedu, a veteran communicator who was the brain behind the good name the Akwa Ibom state led by the then Governor-now Senator Godswill Akpabio, another technocrat synonymous with all other PDP Governors-had, had left the comfort of his mansion to join this 'semi-young' gentleman to build his home state to an enviable height.
Ping!! The Honorable Commissioner of Information just pinged me, and my mind went to him, another conglomeration of intellectual capabilities squeezed into one brain, who had unlike the average Nigerian, left the razzmatazz of the joy of the Lagos Island to develop his home state. And again I wondered, how did the young man in front get it right?
.
A man who many had sworn would never be governor, who more had written off as incapable, was doing what others had termed impossible in this time of economic 'misfortune'. Just then, I said to myself, "I made the right choice, we now have a Governor, whose main goal is to ensure that there's PROSPERITY FOR ALL, and I'm proud to have been instrumental to his emergence!!!"
.
Going through his 'sermon', I heard the voice of a man whose intention was alien to Nigeria, whose intention for his state was void of personal interest, who had climbed the stairs to prosperity, and was doing the unimaginable to get prosperity to the doorstep of all deltans, the man Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, yes this was the man who today had proven against all odds, that it was possible, the man who had said to the world that "it is possible" and showed it was possible, yes, I heard the voice of my over all Boss, who gave me the great commission, "go ye into the world and preach the gospel of prosperity to all Deltans, teaching them all that is to come and is on board, till we the opposition can smile no more."
.
Yes, join me to celebrate the man behind the vision, the Chief Prosperity Ambassador , the most Distinguished Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi A. O. Okowa as he joins all other Deltans to celebrate our 25th anniversary! It is my prayer that our bonds be stronger, and our bonds greater.
.
Comr. Tomi Akporoghene Wojuola
On behalf of all Okowa faithfuls
